Mary’s Assumption SS faced Buddo SS in two competitive friendly football matches today, involving the Under-15 and Under-17 teams. The fixtures gave players an opportunity to test their abilities, build confidence, and identify areas for improvement as the school prepares future teams for the 2027 post-primary games. The Under-15 match was played first and ended in a 1–1 draw. Mary’s Assumption SS’s goal was scored by Tumwesigye Mathias of S.2 North.

The young team demonstrated determination, although it conceded an equalising goal that prevented it from securing victory. Under-15 captain Lwanga Shadrak of S.2 North said, “We have played our best, but we conceded a silly goal. We believe that with more training sessions and trial games, including friendly matches, we shall have better team performance in the post-primary games in 2027.”
The Under-17 match followed, with Buddo SS winning 2–0. Although Mary’s Assumption SS did not get the desired result, the players gradually settled into the match after an initially nervous start and performed with greater confidence as the game progressed.

School football captain Nsiimenta Titus of S.6 Science said, “My fellow players were a bit timid and afraid before the game, but after 15 minutes from kick-off, we stabilized and played our game very well, though we lost to Buddo SS. We shall continue to rally behind our school team, since most of us are finishing our high school studies.” He added, “Special appreciation goes to the school administration for funding us in the various sports disciplines in the school. I also thank Mr Sserugo Nicholas, our games teacher and coach, for mentoring and nurturing talents in the school, and Mr Ssekate Timothy, the assistant football coach, for his vigorous training sessions.” Titus further stated, “I cannot fail to thank God for the blessings and life upon us until today. Success to the S.6 candidates as they prepare for their final-year Advanced Certificate of Education examinations.”
Mr Sserugo Nicholas, Games Teacher at Mary’s Assumption SS Buddo, said, “I have started looking for players who will compete in the forthcoming post-primary games in 2027. Sincerely, player identification and talent development require time, and I would say we are still developing. I am optimistic that we will one day be there.”
The school encourages parents to support children’s participation in sports while guiding them responsibly. Sports can complement academic work by strengthening discipline, confidence, teamwork, cognitive ability, emotional wellbeing, and social development among learners.
